The application was submitted under the Digital Europe Programme call DIGITAL-ECCC-2025-DEPLOY-CYBER-08, which aims to strengthen Europe’s cybersecurity capabilities. The project submitted under this call is called TOPIKI – Trustworthy Operational Quantum Safe PKI and is coordinated by the Italian company InfoCert S.p.A.
The TOPIKI project will run for 36 months and brings together several European organisations — nine in total in this project. SK ID Solutions AS participates as a project partner, contributing its expertise in digital identity, PKI infrastructure and trust services.
The project received a positive evaluation and was invited to the grant agreement preparation phase. The total project budget is over €5.5 million, of which the European Union contribution is €2.8 million.
The TOPIKI project focuses on making digital identity and trust service solutions secure for the future, including in a world where powerful quantum computers are in use. In the future, quantum computers may make some of today’s encryption methods insecure. This means that new solutions need to be introduced early to protect data and digital services in the long term.
As part of the project, new cryptographic solutions and open-source tools will be developed and tested. These will be piloted in real-life settings, including in the financial sector and trust services.
The project will also involve cooperation with standardisation organisations to ensure that the transition to new, more secure technologies is as smooth and reliable as possible.
Haap’s role was to support SK ID Solutions AS in preparing the application. The goal was to ensure that SK ID Solutions AS’s contribution and strengths were presented clearly and convincingly in the proposal.
The result was a strong application that received a positive evaluation and moved on to the next stage.
This example shows that Estonian companies can successfully participate in strategic and highly competitive European Union funding calls. Success requires a strong consortium, a well-thought-out project plan and a clearly written application.
